Tips for strong hair
Hair Thinning

The American Academy of Dermatology states that daily hair loss of 50 to 100 is typical (AAD). Any more than this can indicate that you’re losing hair more frequently than is healthy, which could lead to general hair thinning.

In contrast to widespread hair loss, thinning hair is not always associated with baldness. However, it does give the impression that you have bald patches on your head.
Since hair thinning usually occurs gradually, you have plenty of time to identify its causes and determine the most effective course of action. Dr. Madhavi at Adore Skin Clinic recommends closely observing your hair fall if it is more than usual.

What causes hair to thin out?
Genetics, lifestyle choices, or a combination of the two may contribute to hair thinning. The thinning of hair can also be caused by certain medical problems.

Typical lifestyle choices include:

  • Over-treating your hair, including using relaxers, perms, and colour treatments
  • Using harsh hair products: Extreme-hold hair gels and sprays fall within this category.
  • Wearing tight hairstyles: Whether you’re pulling your hair back into a ponytail or wearing an updo while working out, doing so might cause your hair to drag and tear at the follicles, resulting in thin areas over time.
  • Lacking in key nutrients from your diet: Minerals like iron, folic acid, and others aid in the normal hair-growth process in follicles.
  • Enduring ongoing stress An increase in hormones like cortisol is linked to stress.

When to see a doctor for thinning hair

Although it’s common to lose hair throughout the day, it’s a good idea to speak with your doctor if you’re losing more than 100 hairs per day. You should also talk with your doctor if you’re worried about persistent hair loss or a receding hairline, or if you notice sudden patchy hair loss. Patches of hair loss could signify an underlying medical condition. At Adore Skin, Laser & Hair Clinic in Mumbai, Dr. Madhavi starts with a consultation wherein she understands the concerns and reasons for this.
